Today’s digital world has transformed work, learning, and leisure, but it has also dramatically increased users’ exposure to internet threats, such as malware, ransomware, and phishing. Akamai has a broad portfolio of cybersecurity services that make it simple for consumers and businesses around the world to defend themselves against today's diverse and fast-changing threats.

Easy deployment, enhanced security protections for service providers

Akamai now offers Secure Internet Access services that allow Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to deliver value-added security services for families and small- and midsize businesses (SMB) under their own brands. The services are easy for service providers to deploy, and no security expertise is required for their subscribers to benefit from the enhanced security.

Secure Internet Access services are currently deployed by over 60 fixed and mobile service providers who serve over 400 million subscribers.

Swisscom: protecting 4.3 million customers

Swisscom, an Akamai customer, has deployed Secure Internet Access to deliver its Internet Guard service to protect its 4.3 million customers against phishing, fraud, bots, and malware on all their devices. Within the first nine months, the service detected 18 million potential phishing attempts and 7 million instances of malware. This has strengthened Swisscom’s reputation for reliability, trustworthiness, and security and helped to counteract competitors’ attempts to capture market share.

Mobile network operators: on-ramp cellular traffic

Akamai offers Secure Internet Access for different deployments. For example, Secure Internet Access Mobile is geared towards mobile network operators to allow them to on-ramp cellular traffic from any SIM-enabled device without the need to install a client.

Blocked 7.2 million unwanted DNS requests

A leading mobile network operator has deployed Secure Internet Access to help a global construction equipment manufacturer monitor and protect more than half a million smart vehicles. In just one month, the solution blocked 7.2 million unwanted Domain Name System (DNS) requests that included malicious activity. In addition, SIMs were being stolen from equipment and used illegally. Secure Internet Access Mobile identified this activity and shut it down with its IMEI/equipment lock feature.

Help businesses transition to cloud-based security

Secure Internet Access can also be used directly by businesses to help them transition from on-premise security appliances to cloud-based internet security.

Akamai Secure Internet Access is being used by a global fast food company to protect 30,000 retail locations. The flexibility of the solution allows it to simultaneously protect its EPOS terminals, internet access for employees and guests, and fits with its franchisee business model technology needs.

Transition to Zero Trust security

Secure Internet Access is also helping companies transition to a Zero Trust security architecture. The Pokémon Company, the media franchise company, selected Secure Internet Access and Akamai Enterprise Application Access to help transform its security architecture. By deploying these solutions, the company was able to improve its overall security posture and reduce the workload of its security team.
