Prolexic is now available over Akamai Direct Connect, which is a direct, highly secure, and private network interconnection between a customer’s origin and Akamai Prolexic infrastructure. This enables a seamless on-ramp to Akamai services, and supports 10 G and 100 G port connectivity. It also supports higher-capacity traffic throughputs than traditional Prolexic services. Businesses with high volumes of data packets can have their traffic delivered through GRE tunnels without the need of fragmentation or a maximum segment size (MSS) adjustment. Prolexic over Akamai Direct Connect provides 99.9% to 99.99% network connectivity uptime, as defined in the service-level agreement (SLA). The Prolexic DDoS platform comes with a 100% availability SLA, ensuring a customer’s digital infrastructure has nonstop access to the most effective DDoS protection.
For the Prolexic Routed GRE option, you need to have an assigned /24 or larger advertisable network block (IPv4) or /48 (IPv6), the ability to advertise your network traffic via BGP, and support generic routing encapsulation (GRE) with your origin-based network hardware. We also encourage all customers to set the maximum segment size of all packets to improve GRE tunnel stabilization for Routed GRE. For customers with less than a routable IPv4 /24 and/or IPv6 /48, fragmented IP space, or cloud-hosting provider, the Prolexic IP Protect option provides the same level of DDoS protection via IP anycast to route symmetric traffic through Akamai scrubbing centers.
