Chuo-ku, Tokyo-based Akamai Technologies GK, the global leader in content delivery network (CDN) services announced that Nintendo Co., Ltd. has adopted Akamai Media Delivery Solutions to help deliver mobile games to their customers around the world.
Nintendo and DeNA Co., Ltd. (“DeNA”) have jointly developed an application for smart phones, tablets, and other smart devices, in addition to a membership service. To support the company’s expansion into mobile gaming, Nintendo chose Akamai Media Delivery Solutions to help deliver content seamlessly to a global audience.
Mobile is a very powerful tool that can connect directly to a large number of users. When added to Nintendo’s existing business models, it represents a completely new communication channel. With the launch of this service, Nintendo would likely see a significant increase in the number of users.
With plans to roll out a few mobile games by March 2017, Nintendo and DeNA decided to utilize Akamai’s solutions and CDN, as Akamai would be able to scale when required. With Akamai’s extensive global network spanning across continents, it would be a positive step for Nintendo to utilize the Akamai CDN to expand its new business internationally.
“In order to satisfy our customers who support the “Nintendo” brand around the world, we felt it would be necessary to deliver a seamless experience across regions. We chose Akamai in high appreciation of its achievements and its capability of securing the necessary level of quality,” said Mr. Yutaka Takehisa, manager of business development & Liaison group, business development department, business development headquarters of Nintendo.
