Recognizing Progress and Living Our Values: Akamai’s 2023 ESG Impact Report
At Akamai, we continuously strive to operate in ways that reflect our three core values of integrity and trust, inclusion, and giving back to the communities in which our employees work and live.
Meeting the growing demand for cloud computing, security, and content delivery with Akamai Connected Cloud, mitigating environmental impacts from our operations, and conducting our business in a responsible and sustainable way are at the heart of our approach to our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) program.
As the cloud company that powers and protects life online, we understand that consistently implementing ESG principles into our overarching strategies and operations is the right way to achieve business results. This means we operate our business in ways that we believe best serve the interests of all our stakeholders, including our customers, shareholders, employees, partners, communities — and our planet.
Akamai’s five key ESG focus areas
Today, we are pleased to share our 2023 ESG Impact Report, which details our programs, partnerships, and progress within Akamai’s five key ESG focus areas: Sustainability, Our People, Communities, Governance, and Data Privacy and Security.
In this year’s report, the “Our People” section has expanded to include more of our employee initiatives, benefits, and cultural drivers. Additionally, the “Governance” pillar of our strategy has grown to encompass corporate governance, ESG governance, and responsible business practices. And the updated “Communities” section now includes both activities from the Akamai Foundation and events from additional community outreach programs.
Akamai’s achievements in ESG
This year’s Impact Report celebrates the fact that in 2023 Akamai:
Joined the ZEROgrid initiative to work to accelerate the transition to a reliable, zero-emissions grid
Increased representation of women overall, in technical, nontechnical, manager, and VP+ roles
Gave back to our global communities, with employees logging more than 6,700 volunteer hours during 2023’s global volunteer events
Expanded our Responsible Supply Chain Program (RSCP) to achieve further reach
Shared regular research and insights on the global attack and threat landscape with the broader cybersecurity community
We look forward to continuing and building on the notable progress we have achieved thus far as we continue working to make life better for billions of people, trillions of times a day.
