Our Role in Inclusion, Diversity, and Engagement
The work of creating the most inclusive and diverse organization is never-ending. While that may seem daunting to some, I see it as exhilarating. Sure, I say that from the perspective of VP! But at Akamai, Inclusion, Diversity, & Engagement (ID&E) is a set of habits that belong to us all, and it's a commitment we should proudly share.
As a cornerstone of our corporate strategy, ID&E is a part of the foundation for our success. It's what guides us to be a great company, a strong competitor, and a responsible corporate citizen. And maybe most importantly, it's something that enables each of us to be a part of the change we want to see in our community. What enables us each to be a catalyst for greatness, with the power to shape the world beyond Akamai.
We are all invited to this conversation, grounded in the belief that our voices will be heard and appreciated. And we all have the opportunity to initiate action. To take responsibility. To hold ourselves and each other accountable on our journey together. There is already amazing work being done here at Akamai, and yet, there is still so much more we will do.
Using data, trends, themes and facts, we're able to assess our velocity, that is, whether we are going in the right direction, and whether we are going fast enough. Achievements such as being named one of America's 'Most Just Companies' by Forbes and JUST Capital, and receiving a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign's corporate equality index (for the 4th year in a row!) certainly signal we're on the right path. But these impressive accolades are made real by countless individual achievements, every day, in interactions all across our business. And that's why none of us can afford to slow down.
Our culture isn't defined only by the big and significant programs we launch. It is also a seemingly infinite number of little actions and decisions. Like how we pause for just a moment in a meeting to encourage someone else to speak up, how deliberate we are about respecting time zones, and how we take an opportunity to tell someone else about the positive contribution they've made.
I encourage you to have conversations about what you're seeing and experiencing, and to listen to others share their experiences and perceptions.
Our goal in each moment is to ensure that every one of us feels seen, heard, appreciated, and ready to do our best work to deliver a safe and secure internet experience to our customers across the planet. All of us play a crucial role in creating and sustaining an inclusive and diverse culture, and I'm excited to be on this journey with you.
