Based in Covent Garden, London, the Royal Opera House brings together the world’s most extraordinary artists to share live, streamed, and broadcast events and performances. We’re delighted that this iconic British institution has chosen to work with Akamai to bring its fantastic productions to the big screen.

This spring, audiences will be able to enjoy stunning works from The Royal Opera – including Puccini’s beloved “Tosca,” Deborah Warner’s new production of “Peter Grimes,” and Richard Eye’s critically acclaimed production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” – alongside a range of repertory favorites and world premieres from The Royal Ballet: “Swan Lake,” with its beloved Tchaikovsky score and designs by John Macfarlane; Frederick Ashton’s “Scènes de ballet / A Month in the Country / Rhapsody”; and, among others, a contemporary triple bill that places a new work by Kyle Abraham alongside Crystal Pite’s “Solo Echo” and Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon’s “DGV: Danse à grande Vitesse.”

Royal Opera house stream

A selection of world-class works will be available online, via Royal Opera House Stream, and more will be screened live to global cinemas across the season. As a leader in the content delivery industry with more than a decade of experience in streaming media, we at Akamai know how complex live video streaming can be. We’re very excited to be partnering with the Royal Opera House and to provide them with the scalability, reliability, and technology they need to ensure that their viewers are never disappointed. With the help of our trusted edge network, we are able to deliver pristine video, serve massive audiences without fail, and provide insights into key performance indicators.

Quality live streaming

Speaking about the collaboration with Akamai, James Whitebread, Chief Technology Officer at the Royal Opera House, said: “Akamai is helping us to deliver a fantastic viewing experience for our audiences both in the UK and internationally. We couldn’t be happier with the livestreaming quality we’ve been able to achieve together and it’s been a great partnership so far.”
