Akamai Wave Blue

The beginning of a new year is a time to look back and reflect on the previous one. December 31st is also the end date of our annual Krakow Internship Program. Last year's intake was very unique due to the pandemic and the shift towards a remote work environment. Akamai was fortunate to be able to adjust our internship program to be fully virtual and provide this opportunity to students who look forward to this experience.

Our Internship Program is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their skills, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the organization in a meaningful way. Internships are project-based and focus on real business challenges important to Akamai's continued success. Program participants are encouraged to be proactive members on their team, taking on a comfortable level of responsibility, and are challenged to think critically and creatively. In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities, program participants will be invited to a variety of formal and informal training and social events. Akamai is committed to professional development and interns will receive ongoing formal and informal feedback throughout their experience.

We asked 3 of our 2020 interns what they thought about their time at Akamai and what they have learned during their internship. Here is what they said:

Marcin Zielonka - Software Engineer Intern

My summer internship at Akamai in Kraków in 2020 was such an amazing experience. Although the Coronavirus pandemic has affected people's life all around the world including mine and my plans to get my first internship in software engineering. Fortunately Akamai decided to run their program fully remotely.

I decided to apply for my first job at Akamai because I'm so interested in areas which Akamai focuses on - like network, cloud services, etc. That's why I was incredibly thrilled when I got a call from an Emerging Talent Representative with good news ;)

The whole internship was fully virtual including the onboarding process. I took part in lots of helpful training courses so after a few days I got really familiar with how everything works at Akamai and where I can always seek help or advice.

However, the best and most valuable part of the internship was  working with a team  on a real project. I was assigned a mentor who  was really supportive, and I could always ask them questions. These few months working at Akamai was such a rewarding experience - I learned a lot about new technologies and how to work with other teammates..

All in all, it has undoubtedly been a valuable adventure and I can say that Akamai is an amazing place to work at - especially if you are ambitious, focused on self-development or just seeking new challenges while having a lot of fun, too ;) I am really proud of and still excited to be a part of Akamai as an intern.

Asia Wilk - Security Architect Intern (now full-time employee)

It all started with the fact that I was looking for a place where I could gain practical experience. During my studies at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, I took a class taught by employees from Akamai and it was so great that I awaited recruitment for summer internships to start. I applied for the Security Solution Architect Internship, successfully went through the recruitment process and started working :D.

I was afraid in the beginning of how everything would look due to the fact that the internship program was supposed to be conducted remotely. But Akamai's employees kept in constant contact via email prior to my first day and the onboarding went very smoothly. Since day 1, I felt like a part of the team, thanks to a warm welcome from my mentor and my teammates. During the internship, I had the opportunity to work on real tasks as well as gain knowledge about the company itself. I could always count on the help of a mentor as well as friends from the team.

Akamai is a company that challenges employees so that they become better and better and provides a lot of opportunities for future development. Thanks to the fact that you work with great people, you don't feel pressured. Everyone in this company is important. All people work for a common success. That is why it is worth joining such a team!

Zuzanna Miarzynska - Software Development Engineer in Test Intern

What I love the most about being part of Akamai is the spirit of this company, and the people. I don't just go to work - I go to a pleasant place to do what I like: to program and to learn new skills. Thanks to my internship, programming became my everyday routine. Each person I met at Akamai had an enormous amount of knowledge and was glad to share it with me. From my experience, there is no better way to learn practical stuff than interning in the company.

In my 'Software Development Engineer in Test'' role (also known as Quality Assurance Engineering) I have learned things useful for programmers, DevOps engineers and of course, for testers. During the six month internship, I got to know what automation testing is really about and it truly fascinated me!

I was mainly using Python and Bash languages and Kubernetes technology.

If you are still wondering, hesitate no more. What Akamai can offer:

  • A well planned training program, variety of materials on the platform and lots of time for learning at the beginning

  • Working with the newest technologies that could look really good on your CV

  • The possibility for regular employment, not only higher positions, but also 'horizontally' to different teams and different roles (e. g. from tester to DevOps engineer)

  • Flexible working hours

  • Great intern salary

Good luck!
