“Wellness” is something that many employers are racing to embrace. Good for both their organizations and their people, wellness is an investment in creating a happier and more engaged workforce, as well as reducing the effects of stress and burnout. It has the potential to increase productivity, foster ideas, and reconnect to a sense of purpose – for both individuals and the business.  However, creating wellness initiatives takes careful planning and cultivation for healthier practices to take root. That’s something we’re proud to have achieved here at Akamai.

As a Benefits & Wellness Specialist II in London, I’m part of a team that provides consultation, guidance, and program management for compensation, benefits, and wellness throughout EMEA. Together, we work to maximize the effectiveness of our programs so we can not only attract, but retain the very best staff. It’s by helping empower employees to take action to prioritize their health and well-being that we can show how Akamai is an employer with a sense of purpose – which in turn gives our staff a compelling reason to stay.

Creating an environment that actively promotes feelings of contentment and belonging is a natural fit for a company like ours. When I first joined this company, I must admit my knowledge of what Akamai does was limited; but within days of being immersed in its culture, I felt I’d hit the jackpot! To be a part of a community of genuine and talented people working together in a company with such a tenacious backstory?  A company that truly cares? Well, it certainly makes my team’s job easier!

Today, our global wellness offerings help to advocate support for both body and mind. Whether it’s access to wellness resources, mental health webinars, or subsidized activity trackers, we’re cheerleading our people to take better care of themselves physically, every day. Our Employee Assistance Program and short-term counseling programs provide free, confidential support, 24 hours a day. All in addition to platforms such as Power to Respond and Akamai Spark that provide a breadth of digital resources to keep employees connected in our conversations around health and well-being.

It’s truly special to be able to add value to the employee experience through these programs. I hope that as they continue to develop and grow, we can help more employees feel empowered to put their health and well-being above all else – so they can feel more fulfilled and productive in their lives both at work and at home.
