National Hispanic American Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) is a time to recognize the achievements and contributions of trailblazing Hispanic Americans whose legacies have inspired the world. Akamai stands with our American colleagues whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America in celebrating those achievements. And with groups like the Ohana ERG, we’re able to use this month to share insights that help make our company a better place to be.

As two proudly active Ohana members, we’re part of a community that looks to further expand the work, inclusion, and support of Akamai’s incredibly diverse talent. Through our discussions, meet-ups, and events throughout the year, we support fellow employees of Latin and Caribbean descent (and beyond!), as well as drive Akamai’s mission to be a more diverse and productive organization.

Ohana holds monthly calls that explore a different topic every time – they’re really engaging and often come with a presentation and games for everyone to take part in and enjoy. Hispanic Heritage Month is a highlight of our calendar, and this year’s presentation was run by speakers who shared insights on the culture, traditions, and of course . . . la comida (the food!) of the country they’re from. It was a fantastic experience that saw contributions from members of Puerto Rican, Costa Rican, and Venezuelan backgrounds, among others.

Communities like ours are a vital part of Akamai as they create a safe space for many employees. Not just for work matters, but also perhaps for sharing the personal outlooks and struggles they may be facing. Ohana provides opportunities to connect with our organization’s best and brightest, all while learning and growing from the breadth of knowledge we collectively bring. So, together, we can keep shaping todays’ digital life.

Our time with Ohana has been invaluable and we look forward to continuing to work with and support the group during our time here –  throughout Hispanic Heritage Month and all year long.
