Organizations are changing their approach to cloud computing, moving away from centralized cloud resources and toward more open platforms that use distributed cloud and edge computing. Developers and their IT peers have discovered the limitations of the platform-centric approach taken by some cloud providers, which requires users to develop and deploy workloads by using the services of a single cloud provider and building solely within its ecosystem.

These same organizations are also tired of little to no predictability or transparency regarding their current cloud computing bills. They often end up overpaying for cloud services that they may never use. Companies worldwide are eager to achieve cloud cost optimization. They want to adopt a cloud infrastructure that allows them to pay for what they need, when they need it.

At the same time, organizations need to rapidly respond to the constantly changing needs of their worldwide customer bases and provide consistently compelling and engaging customer experiences. They must be able to quickly scale to extend the global reach of their cloud applications to underserved markets and to support the compute and storage demands of data-intensive applications. Companies across a range of industries are increasingly choosing Akamai’s cloud computing services to meet their current and future needs for an open, flexible, and affordable cloud infrastructure

Optimize cloud costs and realize cloud spend ROI

Bloomfield Robotics is an innovative plant-imaging company that uses a combination of portable smart cameras, servers, artificial intelligence (AI), and deep learning algorithms to help global farmers better manage crop health and yield. Farmers use the insights provided by Bloomfield to determine the best time to harvest their crops and when to intervene in the case of plant health or performance issues.

The challenge for US-based Bloomfield was how to cost-effectively process and store vast amounts of data from numerous customers, which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 terabytes of images and data on a given day. The company launched a multicloud strategy to help optimize costs. After a thorough assessment, Bloomfield discovered that scaling up 1,000 CPU tasks would be much cheaper and easier than spinning up 100 GPUs, and the company chose Akamai to power its data processing.

Akamai enables us to efficiently and cost-effectively scale our processing with CPUs.”

— Ryan Ernst, Principal Software Engineer, Bloomfield

Provide a cost-effective and flexible cloud computing platform

India’s leading omnichannel grocery platform, FreshToHome, aims to provide a one-stop shop for natural and organic foods to customers in India and the Middle East. The company relies heavily on technology, including AI and the Internet of Things (IoT), to promptly transport fish and meat directly from fishermen and farmers to its warehouses and distribution hubs.

FreshToHome needed a flexible cloud computing platform that would enable uninterrupted operations, and support continued growth across numerous locations. The company, which has experienced nearly fourfold growth in the last decade, decided on Akamai to power its cloud environment.

The Akamai platform proved to be highly cost-effective, as transparent pricing eliminated hidden fees based on usage. This allowed us to precisely know our expenses when deploying multiple instances.”

— Saurabh Odhyan, Consumer CTO, FreshToHome

Deliver unparalleled customer experiences on a robust and scalable cloud

More than half of Australia’s 1,500 golf clubs use MiClub’s golf and club management solutions. The software house is also making inroads into other global regions by using its subscription-based model to help support exponential growth.

MiClub decided to transition from a traditional data center setup to a cloud platform to enhance scalability and customer experiences. The company recognized the need for a flexible cloud infrastructure to handle daily spikes in demand. Intense player demand, particularly for coveted tee times like 8:00 AM, required robust and scalable systems. By moving to Akamai, MiClub addressed these challenges, ensuring smooth operations and enhancing customer satisfaction.

We chose Akamai due to ease of use, cost, and the fact that Akamai is a massive supporter of the Linux community.”

— Paul Dean, IT Manager, MiClub

Support customer satisfaction and growth

Web hosting services provider HostArmada wanted to consistently satisfy its global customers’ expectations for website speed, security, and stability, so it required a solid and reliable cloud infrastructure. US-based HostArmada was also keen to keep expanding its business around the world and work with a cloud provider with an extensive global network.

HostArmada picked Akamai after conducting due diligence tests to select the optimal cloud computing provider for its business.

The test results confirmed that Akamai outshone the competition in terms of service quality, swift and knowledgeable support responses, and ongoing updates, among other factors. We were convinced that we couldn’t find better value for the price. We trust Akamai to provide us with that strong foundation and further enable us to deliver the speed and stability our customers appreciate.”

— Simeon Mitev, Co-Founder and CEO, HostArmada

Customers choose Akamai as their trusted and innovative cloud partner

In the future, plant-imaging company Bloomfield Robotics plans to use automation and GPUs via edge computing as it continues to scale up data-intensive processing. Bloomfield is also looking to manage infrastructure for its customers, many of whom lack strong internet connections. The company plans to work with Akamai on its move to edge computing.

We want to push to the edge and are excited to see how the industry evolves, particularly with the announcement of Akamai Gecko. We’re on a shared edge journey with Akamai and look forward to evolving together.”

— Ryan Ernst, Principal Software Engineer, Bloomfield

For HostArmada, Akamai has empowered the cloud web hosting provider to introduce new services aligned with modern websites’ lifecycles. Akamai is a significant partner for HostArmada, as its global cloud infrastructure helps to support satisfaction and growth across the cloud web hosting provider’s customer base.

Selecting Akamai as our cloud computing partner is hands down the best decision we’ve made for our business. By partnering with Akamai, we can stand out in an overcrowded niche by improving our own offerings and gaining the freedom to devise innovative ways to expand business further. And throughout our journey, we can take advantage of Akamai’s industry-leading customer support and expert advice.”

— Simeon Mitev, Co-Founder and CEO, HostArmada
